Wholy Failure - Christmas Day Exhumation
Newest WF poop. I hope it ruins everyone's holiday season. Has a cover of the seminal (semenal?) twee-pop song Emma's House by The Field Mice.

A strong black metal demo, with plenty of atmosphere, yet straightforward at the same time, perfect for banging your heads to. Watch out for these Brits, because if this demo is an indication of what is to come, I think they should be on your radar for a while.

New Nuklearenpest demo. I enjoy this one more than Consigned to the Black Plague, which I didn't dislike but was not one of my favorites. Raw, atmospheric black metal.

“...Riding atop the recent wave of black metal/noise hybrids who combine the bleak frosty riffs and blackened ferocity of underground BM with blown-out and corrosive strains of industrial noise (see also WOLD, Emit, Grief No Absolution, Enbilulugugal, Vargr), the Australian one-man band Nekrasov has so far made a substantial mark in the realm of extremist necro-racket with a series of limited edition, brutally abrasive albums (Cognition Of Splendid Oblivion, The Form Of Thought From Beast, etc) that have mostly been self-released, save for some recent offerings on labels like Siege Of Power and Chrome Leaf. Early on, Nekrasov's sound was steeped in caustic noise, a blazing industrialized black metal assault that was doused in heavy levels of irradiated distortion and Merzbowian skree. But more recently, it's mutated into less metallic regions, alternating the hyperblast black metal with forays into crushing, demonic wall-noise and blasted ambience. Now, Nekrasov is back with a new full length (the first for Crucial Blast), and it's the most advanced slab of their blacknoize terror that we've heard so far. An octagonal prism of isolationist drone, flesh-rending mechanical black metal, abstract otherworldly beauty, claustrophobic industrial dread, and the most violent, suffocating strains of harsh noise, Extinction is pure cyclonic contempt for humanity.... ” via Crucial Blast

Newest full-length from the best Tragic black metal act out there. Don't go into this expecting anything, there are so many influences that slapping a genre tag doesn't work on this. This will be out at the end of the week on Bandcamp and iTunes, so please buy it if you like it!

Here it is, the long awaited and delayed third Auspicium long-player. Nick from Disguster contirbuted leads and vocals on "The Imperialist" that are great. The packaging and layout by Ninth Meridian Records are great, so please make sure you buy a copy if you enjoy it.

Hellige is from Argentina. They play a blend of doom and black metal. It is reminiscent of The Axis of Perdition and TWTTG-era Blut Aus Nord.

Some very, very impressive folk/tribal/black metal album. Phenomenal musicianship and songwriting. It's ritualistic and pagan and folky all at the same time. Absolutely beautiful. Well done.

A goddamned headbanger! Nachzehrer play black metal mixed with thrash. Think D666 but more straightforward. Leather Jackets, bullet belts, cheap whiskey by the handle. If any of those sound good to you, check this group of Bostonians out!

Here is a cautionary tale for all bands submitting here. Please don't say you are a "blackened punk" act when in reality you are a raw black metal band with a decent amount of punk influence. I don't care what you are, I'll post your tunes no matter what. Just don't misrepresent yourselves.
Boglord are a raw black metal band with some punk influences. This demo is kinda sloppy when the speed picks up, so your best bets are the tracks where the speed stays at a stompy level. Not the greatest thing to pass my desk, but far from the worst. Check it out
(ps - any band who has a member who's pseudonym is a drug from the Elder Scrolls video games can't be that bad)

Wow. An honest-to-goodness fucking submission that wasn't Post-this, /that, just a good old fashioned cold black metal release with WAY too much reverb and some decent melodies. It's atmospheric, but not slow. It sounds like a demo because it is a demo. The wheel definitely wasn't reinvented here, but that's ok.

Folkstorm is a black metal/folk band that really sounds a lot like what would happen if Agalloch and Falls of Rauros (buy their new fucking album, The Light That Dwells In Rotted Wood, then fucking thank me) combined to create something new. Their first album was good, but this is damn good. This is top notch material and is a must for any fans of folkish black metal.

As the Autumnal Equinox is here, I thought I'd give the new Field of Spears EP I'd been working on out in celebration. As Serpent & Sodom celebrated summer and sweltering sin, Pale Eulogies is inspired by the impending chill of Autumn and the inescapable finality of death.

In advance of our splits with Disguster and Malveillance (as well as the physical release of this EP). Here is the new Avulse EP "Too Kvlt to Fuck". Its kind of a midway point between the introspection of I Am The Liquor and the fuck it attitude of Granted but Grace from this World. Lots of Poison Idea was listened to when this was written.

More Crust Punx-cum-black metal goodness. These guys lean more towards the crust side of things, but keep a good helping of the black metal going.

This is a recording of what (if I'm correct) is the first and thus far only Disguster live performance. It definitely doesn't have the greatest sound, but it still sucks you in and traps you in its rawness. A big thanks to Nick for sending this over (not completely related, but later in the year look out for the Disguster/Avulse split tape.)

Ferocious raw black metal mixed with hardcore punk. This is raw like dry-fucked asshole. If you like it noisy, dirty, and covered in filth, you will fucking love this.

I have (re)started a new (old) blog for all things non-bm that me and my friends create, or demos that I receive that aren't quite what we strive for here: http://lastsunslight.blogspot.com/
This first post is another of the myriad projects I create, and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys Death/Doom or just crushing music in general.

Shameless promotion here. I've started another blog entitled Perpetual Strife. It's review oriented but will have tons of specials (interviews, features, etc) on all kinds of music from grindcore to black metal to ambient to punk.
Check it out!

"Abu Lahab is a project I started back in 2000 under a different name but forced to change the name later fearing that my identity would be discovered after my first demo gained some local fame because of the strong anti Islam elements it contained. Lately, the music I make/ try to make is mostly an outlet for me to express my personal frustrations (religious, sexual, social...), my take on the occult and an escapist activity to better cope with my illness."
Yeah...this is one weird fucking record. It is lo-fi black metal mixed with industrial and noise, with the occasional sample or Islamic prayer thrown in, and some fucking video game music. I could see this as auditory schizophrenia. If you enjoy generally fucked up unmusic, noise, or darkwave, give it a shot.

So, Book of Sand takes old American and European folk songs and interprets them as black metal. Its a pretty cool set up. Lots of violin and atmosphere. The vocals are pretty low in the mix, but I had to find something to bitch about.

"YHDARL was formed in 2006 by D, doing everything, experimenting from suicidal black metal, drone, noise, funeral doom, ... In 2010, L (Larvalis) joined the project, doing insane female screams and inspiration of audial rape. With many free releases and some physical stuff available, YHDARL stood with a different, original banner of depressive music."
