1349-1349 (ep)
So I don't know 'bout y'all, but I think old 1349 was pretty bitchin.' Liberation and this, their 2001 EP and also their first non-demo release, were pure unadulterated early 90's Mayhem/Gorgoroth worship. That said, they didn't try and hide what they were, and I like that. 1349 and Liberation were honest to devil black metal worship. Similar to other worship bands (old Municipal Waste to Wehrmacht, Sleep to Black Sabbath, or Warhammer to Hellhammer) the unoriginality was excused and the fun/competency or whatever else was what was admired.
There's a key component to this release, the cover is of Celtic Frost (the Usurper) not Pink Floyd, think on that (speaking of which that's Ravn drumming on the cover, not Frost).Frost used to be able to drum, and this shows it, I'm convinced the reason why 1349 and Satyricon suck is because he has bad tendinitis and can't drum fast well.
So if you want something ahead of the curve hit up Negura Bunget, Altar of Plagues, or Liturgy, but if you want second wave black metal done right listen to this (it's odd to think this is almost 10 years old).

A classic.
I don't understand how bad cover art happens to good bands
haha in my opinion their worst release, had the original and traded it way back, I wonder if it's worth something today.
yeah its not bad but id say its their worst release too, while i like revelations/demonoir i like liberation the best its fucking brutal
these dickwads have a long history of horrible album art... Funny story bout them, my pal from Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult said that their guitar tech actually put the guitar around the guitar player's neck and adjusted his volume or tone knob for him, hahaha
Hellfire and the one after it have such atrocious production. won't even comment on the last two.
ive always liked this band and disagreed with the hatred theyve received
Liturgy is a terrible band and are not ahead of any curve. They just have a good publicist.
