Diapsiquir
Really fucked up "industrialized" black metal from France, usually quite long songs that are all over the place but unlike many other bands this isn't fucked up just for the sake of being fucked up, very calculated composition actually, also one of the few bands which create spot on atmosphere, you actually feel the decadence of urban society. Also, in my opinion, Virus S.T.N. is one of the very few albums I'd say are perfect, everything is where it should be, absolutely no faults on that one, and it never gets old thanks to the incredibly hectic composition. Highly recommended!!!

Eyes of Ligeia - A Fever Which Would Cling to Thee Forever
Amazing music from this now defunct band, blackend doom metal with an incredible mood which is definitely aided by the perfect production, it's not cristal clear but all the instruments blend in perfectly creating this excellent dark Lovecraftian atmosphere; amazing compositon all the way through, this album is actually the first one with a full line-up, and is definitely, in my opinion, the bands zenith!!

Isengard
Project by Fenriz, Isengard started out with a more death / black metal and gradually progressed into folkish black metal, but unlike 90% of todays bands that play this ever popular genre Isengard actually pull it off without sounding shabby; Fenriz's chanted vocals over some amazing mid-paced black metal all with a slightly muddy production, can't go wrong with that!

1995 - Høstmørke

Diaboli - Anthems of Sorrow
Excellent album by this long running Finnish black metal band, this one is my favorite release by them, recorded with the original line-up that featured Grimn'r who unfortuantely commited sucide. Really good composition with repetitve riffs and strong sense of atmopshere make this one an excellent listen!!

Nahash
"Old" black metal horde from Lithuania, quite underrated in my opinion, Nahash plays some very original occult black metal, reminds me a bit of early Black Funeral which can only be a good thing, they haven't released a lot of material over the years, but the stuff they released is quite amazing!

1996 - Wellone Aeternitas

2003 - Daath

Crux Dissimulata - Expédition Punitive
black metal from France, very strange album, features some strange female vocals that remind me of Nuit Noire and Hanin Elias's vocals (from her ATR years) for some reason, at first I must say I didn't enjoy this album, but it really grew on me, some very nice thrashy riffs and the production is actually quite fitting, some parts are a bit cheesy but in a good way. Recommended, if nothing else for the second song that is simply amazing.

Cobalt - War Metal
One of my all time favorite "war metal" bands, Cobalt is quite a unique presence, from the very strange cover to the very avant-gardish booklet you'd expect some experimental shit, instead Cobalt treats us with some relentless riffage and brutal vocal attack that is just spot-on, this one doesen't have the progressive touches of the new album but is nevertheless highly recommended!!!

Opera IX
[Repost as requested, I didn't add the albums after the original vocalist and drummer left because in my opinion it's quite awful.]
Taken from the original post by Attila, couldn't have said it better, fitting description to this once incredible band:
"Opera IX is one of the more unique bands to come out of Italy in some time. Unlike a lot of present-day Italian bands (many of whom are in the power/prog metal field), Opera IX's style is an intriguing and original mix of black, doom, and goth metal, with excellent songwriting and highlighted by vocalist Cadaveria (until recently, as mentioned below). She is quite a find, able to transition from beautiful soprano to goth crooning to death growls and black rasps, often within the same song. Her vocals, along with the interplay between keyboards and guitars, set this band apart, there's not really any other band that sounds like this. The songs are long but never boring, as the band gracefully transitions from one section to the next, effortlessly changing mood from softer passages to aggressive riffing. An ethereal mood pervades over much of the music, often quite haunting (this is where the goth comparisons come from). It took a few listens to get into this band, but the more one listens, the more one appreciates them."

Lascowiec / Marblebog / Vérzivatar - Deep Horizons Of Eternity
Excellent split album, Lascowiec performs some amazing atmospheric black metal in the vein of Blazbirthall bands (think early Branikald); Marblebog plays the usually amazing mid-paced atmospheric black metal we have come to expect from them & Vérzivatar picks the pace a bit with some slightly faster black metal. This is the first release I heard from Lascowiec and Vérzivatar and they really impress, definitely two bands to keep an eye out for. Great release!!

Ovskum
Excellent underground black metal from Italy, mid-paced black metal with some amazing composition that emanates a true feeling of despair, unlike many mediocre demo bands this is some excellent stuff! A must for fans of bands like Hypothermia, Austere etc.
