1349 - Revelations of the Black Flame

I'm not usually so big on posting new releases of better known bands, especially if the release isn't even officially out, but fuck me I just had to post this. 1349’ first three albums were all pretty much based on fast dynamic songs; this one on the other hand is all about atmosphere. The album is much slower then any of their previous material and focused more on ambience; the atmosphere created is perfect, pure fucking darkness!
An incredibly refreshing release and one of this years finest!

Looks like Rapidshare doesn't like this - says it is suspected to contain illegal files. I'd take that shit down ASAP, dude.

Thanks for the brief review, though... I've not historically been into these guys too much but I'm looking forward to picking this up.

Jähzorn May 13, 2009 at 8:55 PM

hey khaos!!! your comment on 1349 sux.
what the fuck do you expect of a !fast! bm band like 1349?
isn't it a reason to cry when frost(top ten drummer) and guitars are played like if the band would be amateurs.
I hate this album. If I want a atmosph. -bm
I get some 'whatever bm band' that always plays ambient stuff, true!

1349 hasnt ever been a band like this. if anything is 'untrue' in the World then this LP!
1349 new album is the
most disappointing piece of bm shit I have ever had to listen to.
I cant listen to a band that wants to be true by negating the old playing style, for something like this. ^^^^
(if that shall be the bm tradition, then goodbye bm 4ever)

You seem to like everything that sounds good to your favor,
but without paying attention to the fact that 1349 wasn't ever a ambient band.
You are not worth to comment it coz you didnt reflect the meaning of the past for the future.
This blog is ridiculous, if you dont have principles.

Look what you have done.
Harold now thinks that 1349 is and was that slow.

a principle is:
if a band turns his style,
within a genre that is often so I pedantic, what the stilistics issue concerns,
the band is not nearly true.

Why a name if the content varies?
why should I baptize a music if I can't transport a constant Idea.
this album is the chaos and fire of former stuff, it is the cold ash noone ever remembers.

P:s If this would be the first LP I would not hear it.
there is nothing inside than inconclusiveness.
THis album isnt even the ash of tree worth.

Hey Sx!!! Your English sux.

Krumbled Kookie May 13, 2009 at 9:50 PM

Yeah, SX, you might consider opening your mind a bit instead of worrying about whether or not an album is "true."

It's the artist's decision what art they make - not yours. If you don't like it, I'm sure 1349 will get over it. If they're being true to their artistic vision, whatever that may be, then they are being "true." That is principle - that is honesty.

Continuing to do what they've done in the past for the sake of closed-minded douches like yourself is what we call "selling out." And not at all "true."

carl May 13, 2009 at 11:08 PM

1349 was always a generic band, imo.
This 'different' release is also quite mediocre. Fuck 'atmosphere': it's what you do when you run out of riffs.
I missed them Live, but from most reports, they were unimpressive.
BTW, ty for Posting it, anyway.

catskin_gloves May 14, 2009 at 12:43 AM

All posts are appreciated here by me, don't get me wrong.. But this album sucks balls.... No energy, a weak Pink Floyd cover, a filler instrumental. Clearly this band has hit the wall and run out of ideas. BM is drowning in average bands and 1349, despite their 'superstar' drummer, has joined the heap....

Albert Witchfinder May 14, 2009 at 2:17 AM

SX is so true he shits posers!

Krumbled Kookie May 14, 2009 at 3:53 AM

I have to disagree that atmosphere is what you do when you've run out of riffs. I think atmosphere is about creating space and providing texture to an otherwise ordinary and bland form of music. Many black metal bands are just boring and lifeless. In my opinion, the ones that are relevant and interesting now are the ones using different sound forms, such as atmospherics and ambiance, to create layers of expression. I'm thinking of Wolves in the Throne Room, Xasthur, Nachtmystium, Blut Aus Nord, and a few others. I haven't listened to this 1349 record yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

carl May 14, 2009 at 4:51 AM

Harold, your definition of atmosphere is even more damming than mine. :)
I enjoyed Nachtmystium live as a three piece, but even more before they Pink'd up. WitTR is a story unto themselves. Each time I go hear them they have added something else, and not no filler neither.
Thanx again for all these Links.

Krumbled Kookie May 14, 2009 at 5:11 AM

Ugh... I gave it a listen, and while I'm glad it was posted here, and it did have its moments, I did not find it enjoyable. I am however glad that I tried. I'm pretty particular about black metal, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for the post. And for the entertaining response from SX - classic :)

Jähzorn May 14, 2009 at 8:13 PM

Ok I guess I have started really harsh.
... my english sucks, because it isnt my mothertongue^^! douche! and I am/was in Rage.

Ok lets resum!
For my part I guess this album should get another review. Fourtanely, we have this space to discuss. Because what new listeners of 1349 should just see, is the 100% turning of their style.
If they had ever got one, then I assert that It was fast bm! not ambient. at least not totally ambient.

The Interpretations may vary, but
what is true there.
Are members shizo!? whatever!

...
the douche Harold is you
and you are contradictory.
the term 'trve' may be contestable, but
'True' means also 'loyal'
loyal to a style maybe, etc.
to what is the band loyal.

But we all know, that as you(H.) said, 1349 havn't been trve like 'myspace-society'-abloshing bm bands. instead they had songs and video(s).
^^help, oh satan, Bm on MTV! ^^

...so: 1349 was a kind of commercial product, and frankly said every f***** bm band is,
if it isnt DSBM or narszistic listening to their own music, isolated in nowhere.
^^ haha.

now they have turned to trueness isnt it so? they have abolished, as I think a freshed-up-song-writing, for atmosphere!
like a amateur atmo. tasting some clean sounds, some slow! beats and
...

bravo. now every 1349 listener thinks:"what nice changes? the band I 'love' has now reduced the speed and replaced the guitarist and drummer by their grantpas'
playing the new stuff in true valium style.

Because the speed and distortion, 1349-members seem to have been associating with hell and pestilence, their gran'pas cant feel. coz they are cold.^^
"ok": say the members." so lets write songs of cold chambers of pestilence and the cool ashes of the rotten."

It 's ok I get it, a drummer like frost must play slow....because his name is true, and his style must fit to a frozen drummer.
haha, hilarious.
playing as sloow as possible.
the guitarist hasn't had Ideas and
forget the distortion effect or even and how to play fast bm.

If I would get the Info that 1349 really recorded this shit in a cold chamber, and the musicians were too frozen to play, then this would be true.

Again a fascinating tragic norwegian cultural music.
"We have the longest night on earth, we live in the darkness."

"WE are freezing and can only play slow!!!! as less riffs as possible...if possible..."

Sorry Guys I cant be serious anymore.^^

I dont care anymore, what 1349 does.
Luckily there is the Internet
and I am not damnned to buy it.

I know as much as You think to know about trveness because it is just personnal.
The Fans destroy this GEnre.
There is only fun to let you do your own musical crap, and then
get reviews! I am looking forward to destroy you with my feedback for your efforts.

The BM-Scene swallows every gush
from a band, as long as the band
isnt professionell. If a band sells a album, it turns to the commerce-devil. If not , the band, gets pity because it is soo original. and true (untalented)

THen Fans buy a cassette and hope it will be a 1 exemplar limitation.
Instead of taking a guitar and jamming crappy stuff like that they worship.
they judge and keep their exemplar as holy as the unique piece of shit every morning.
You treat bm bands like shit!
washing it away, because you have to and leaving a tear because of its uniqueness and transientness.

what glorious philosophs, you are!!
hail thee and rot in hell!

- May 15, 2009 at 3:36 AM

Sx, I'm glad you recovered from your "rage." You really made more sense the second time around.

xgabex May 15, 2009 at 5:02 AM

Sx has WAY too much time on his hands. he's whining this much over a band changing their musical direction. he obviously doesn't know a thing about music progression.
i haven't listened to this album yet, but i wasn't a fan of their older stuff.

Jähzorn May 15, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Haha I love you guys!

It's all so ridiculous.

You can spare the time
you waste for reviews!

Yes xgabex
I dont know much about
progression coz I've just seen regression

P.S. there is no sense in anything.

S.P.N. May 15, 2009 at 5:40 PM

Yeah, this album isn't great in any standard. The song "Maggot Fetus" is sick though.

It's clear that after this rather soft effort 1349 will come back full force and make a big deal out of it.
Fuck it, they rule, and Frost is a douche. What's new...

Unknown May 16, 2009 at 2:20 AM

Hey SX. Bm is not for you. There are no such thing as amateurs in BM. If you don't understand what Black Metal is just go whine somewhere else.

Dimaension X May 16, 2009 at 2:33 PM

Wow - the anger and controversy! I'm afraid to post a comment. Wait, no I'm not.

I like it. Call me a douche, but I like that they've decided to try something a little different. 'Bout time, too.

For once, they're not trying to play blast beats and tremolo picked riffs as fast as they can for 45 minutes. Variety. Yup, variety. Dynamics. Atmosphere. Is it original. NOOOO! Far from it. But I like it. There. I said it. Now go ahead and egg my car.

mufuka May 18, 2009 at 11:18 PM

Listening to it right now, first listen. I don't know what to think right now. I definitely don't blame them for trying something new. Not every band can do they same deal over and over and keep a long career (see Motorhead and AC/DC as exceptions). It's clear that working with TG Fischer (and I'm sure touring like crazy with Celtic Frost) has had a major impact on their writing style. Maybe this'll be the one lump of coal in their career. Or maybe this will become the one landmark that everyone misses out on now and looks back fondly on in 20 years. So far, to me, it seems like Post-Rock meets Black Metal. And I like both, so I'll keep listening. Doesn't seem too far off base from Mayhem's "Ordo Ad Chao", and that was one of the best of the year when it came out.

carl May 20, 2009 at 3:16 AM

Well, I love 'ORDO...'.
finally set to hear them with 'tilla next week. :)
For really good (imo) Post Black/Progressive try the new CODE.(lol, their actual name , an html tag, won't print here.)
KVOST is a comer on vox.
