Antaeus

Formed around 1994, angry French black metal band Antaeus specialize in a raw, dissonant, and chaotic assault that attempts to live up to the group's slogan of "Anti God, Anti Music, Anti You." The band's website lists MkM (vocals), Set (guitar), LsK (bass), and ZVN (drums) as current members and Piat, Storm, Black Priest, Kheer, Thorgan, and Sagoth as former members in what has proven to be a rapidly shifting lineup. Antaeus released Cut Your Flesh and Worship Satan, a collection of re-recorded demo tracks, on Baphomet Records in 2000, followed by Ed Principii Evangelikum on the Osmore Productions label in 2002 and Blood Libels on Norma Evangelium Diaboli in 2006.

Heartless

Heartless is a black metal band from China. Formed in early 2003. The band consists two members, gutarist and vocalist Slash Lu, Bassist Sandman Wang. Slash Lu writes the lyrics and Sandman Wang design the artwork.
At first they play war black metal just like Marduk. At Feb 2004 they made the first demo <Something Of Death> for 8 copies and all sent to their friends.Late 2004 Slash Lu decided to change their genre to suicide black metal. Then they made the second demo <Endless Suicide> in CD and limited in 50 copies. The China indie label Dying Art started interested in them and invited the band to join the black metal split <348?>. Now the band is in recording their first album. Slash Lu said it will like empyrium and ulver's second album.

Falkenbach

Falkenbach is a one-man German black/folk metal project created by Vratyas Vakyas (literally, "The Searching Wanderer"). Vratyas Vakyas lived in Iceland for a considerable time, but now lives in Düsseldorf, Germany again. Throughout the band's lifetime, Falkenbach has progressed from a rawer, more "black" sound towards viking-influenced folk metal with mainly clean vocals. Vakyas' music is nowdays accompanied by session musicians.

Bethlehem

Dark / Black Metal band from Grevenbroich (Germany). Formed in 1991. 5 full albums (1994 - 2004). Many of Bethlehem's songs have morbid and sick lyrics, which may for the most part be personal to the band. Over the years Bethlehem modernized their style and so the early Black and Doom metal influences are now hardly present, the band favouring a more Neue Deutsche Härte (New German Hardness), Gothic and Electronic approach.

Ensiferum

Ensiferum is one of a handful of bands operating under the Viking metal banner, though they aren't as overtly Viking as, say, Einherjer or Thyrfing. Their self-titled 2001 debut received several glowing reviews, and with good reason, as the band has a keen sense of melody and pacing, as well as a varied songwriting style that gives them an air of originality. There are moments where a Finntroll influence is very plain, but otherwise no one band stands out as a standalike. Anyone into melodic death/black/folk/viking metal should give Ensiferum a listen. 2004's Iron is similarly being well received.

Profanum

Profanum is an Dark Ambient Noise /Black Metal/Classical band from Poland. Their lyrics are based on Satanism, Misanthropy, Philosophy, Literature etc. The Black Metal influence was reduced at a later stage and the band decided not to use guitars, bass or any 'typical' Metal sound, replacing it with symphonic orchestra instruments like piano and violins.

Parts from Musaem Esotericum album are feartured in the polish short film Intelekt Kollapse (2005) as in-film music/score.

Akitsa

Akitsa is a black metal band from St. Andre, Quebec. They now consist of only one member, but were originally a duo. They released the short demo "Totale Servitude" in 1999, which was more of an experiment in various black metal sounds. They pulled it together in 2002 for their first album "Goétie", which was raw black metal with rock and even punk influence. At this point, drummer Néant left the group, leaving O.T. to take over all instruments. He generally kept the same sound, and Akitsa remained an interesting group in the Quebec black metal underground. The lyrical themes are generally about Quebec nationalism and its History, nature and misanthropy among others. [ last fm ]
